Insurance Information
Understanding your protection when you rent with Rotimax.
At Rotimax, your safety and peace of mind are our priority. All vehicles in our fleet are covered by comprehensive vehicle insurance. Here is a plain-language guide to what is covered, what is not, and how our insurance works.
Standard Coverage Includes
- Third-party liability (damage to other vehicles or property)
- Accidental collision damage to the rented vehicle (CDW)
- Theft or attempted theft of the vehicle
- Passenger personal accident liability
- 24/7 roadside assistance and breakdown coverage
Not Covered
- Tyre, wheel, and rim damage
- Windscreen chips or cracks (unless full windscreen replacement)
- Underbody and chassis damage
- Interior damage (seats, upholstery, dashboard)
- Damage caused while driving under the influence
- Damage caused by an unlisted or unauthorised driver
- Misfuelling and resulting engine damage
- Damage caused by off-road driving in non-4x4 vehicles
- Personal belongings left in or stolen from the vehicle
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) & Excess
All Rotimax rentals include a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). This waiver reduces — but does not eliminate — your financial liability in the event of an accident.
Your excess (the amount you pay before insurance kicks in) depends on the vehicle category:
- Economy & Compact: R3 500 excess
- Sedan & Intermediate: R5 000 excess
- SUV & Bakkie: R6 500 excess
- Luxury & Premium: R8 500 excess
This excess is the maximum you will pay for a single insured incident, provided all terms and conditions of the rental agreement are met.
Important Reminder
Your security deposit covers the excess amount. If you are involved in an accident or an incident occurs, the deposit may be used to cover your excess liability. Any portion of the deposit not applied to excess or charges will be refunded within 5 business days.
Theft Protection
Vehicles are covered against theft provided all of the following conditions are met:
- The vehicle was locked and windows/sunroof were fully closed at the time of theft.
- The keys were not left in the vehicle.
- A valid SAPS case number was obtained and submitted to Rotimax within 24 hours.
- No terms of the rental agreement were violated at the time of theft.
The Renter remains liable for the applicable theft excess as per the vehicle category above.
In Case of an Accident
- Ensure all parties are safe and call emergency services if required (112).
- Do not admit liability or make any settlement to third parties.
- Call Rotimax immediately: 021 879 6956 or WhatsApp 063 002 1695.
- Obtain a SAPS case number if the accident involves injury, another vehicle, or damage to property.
- Take photographs of the scene, both vehicles, and any visible damage.
- Collect the other driver's name, ID/licence number, vehicle registration, and insurer details.
- Complete the Rotimax Accident Report form and return it within 24 hours.
Your Own Insurance
Some personal travel insurance policies or credit cards may provide additional rental car coverage. We recommend checking with your insurer or card provider before your rental. Rotimax's insurance remains the primary cover — any additional cover from your insurer may supplement but does not replace it.
